Getting Started :: Sauce Scout

Skip the docs... launch a browser now (it's that easy)

Find bugs faster with Scout

Design, debug, and test faster. Scout gives you access to cloud-hosted browsers in less than 20 seconds. You control them with your keyboard and mouse — just like you would at your computer. You want to share what you found with your team, and we make that easy by automatically giving you videos and screenshots of your session.

  • Instant access to browsers – Test right away in any browser you choose. No need to install operating systems, provision license keys, and configure your virtual machines.
  • Free up your computer - There's no need to clutter up your personal machine with random operating systems you rarely use.
  • Record a video of your tests - Submit complete, informative, bug reports with exact reproduction information.
  • Track your test time by browser – Track the resources you're devoting to each browser. Make informed browser support decisions with concrete data.
  • Integrate with your existing bug tracker – Of course you have bug tracking, but we'd like to help you make it work better. All test results can be embedded in any bug tracker, giving your team easy access to screenshots and videos.

Instant Access

Brand new and pre-booted machines save you time and let you get more done... launch a browser right now!

Access applications behind a firewall

Is your web application internal? Easily and securely provide access to specific internal servers using Sauce Connect.

Note a Bug

After launching a browser, use it to navigate your site as you would any other computer. If you find anything out of place click the Take a Snapshot button. You can record as many bugs as you want in one session, but note that sessions are limited to 20 minutes. This protects you from being charged for inadvertently leaving a Scout session idle all day.

Recorded Video

When you note a bug, we'll create a bug report page on your bugs page containing the screenshot and video of the bug.

In addition, all Scout sessions are OnDemand automated tests in the background. This isn't important for normal usage, but you will find a list of all manual test jobs on your automated tests page, including all assets captured in that session.

Integrate It

All bugs generate three emeddable assets:

  1. Screenshot
  2. Video and Video Embed
  3. Bug Detail Page

Embedded assets are offered in two forms, permalink and embed-link.

Permalinks are login-required permanent links to the assets hosted on our service. Share these links with other co-workers who have Sauce Labs accounts.

If you want to share a asset more generally, we offer embed-links that permit semi-public access to specific assets. Embed-links can be accessed without a login, so they are ideal for embedding into bug trackers and emailing to other stakeholders. If you want to remit access to an embed-link you can change the access key to your Sauce Labs account which will invalidate all embed-links associated with your account.

Video links are offered as both video embed and regular video links. You can find the video embed code on the bottom of the page, and it works just like a YouTube video embed. Pasting this link into your ticket tracker will cause a video to show in place of the embed code. The regular video links (near the thumbnail) will load the bug detail page and launch the video inside the page.

Not Just for Bugs

Early users reported uses for Sauce Scout beyond bug logging:

  1. By developers to document that their submitted bug fix worked
  2. By graphic designers to solve gnarly CSS issues in IE
  3. By documentation people to show how a feature works

Can you think of other users? Tell us! We offer a complimently one-month "Individual" plan for all uses we publish!

Troubleshooting

Seeing a Security Error message (Error #2048)

The error you're seeing is caused because the ports that Scout relies on are being blocked by some firewall in your end.

These are all the servers and ports that Scout relies on, depending on the platform being used.
